A complex and critical case involving a 79-year-old patient with severe injuries following a car accident was successfully managed at SKMC.

A complex and critical case involving a 79-year-old patient with severe injuries following a car accident was adeptly managed at SEHA’s Sheikh Khalifa Medical City, continuing to deliver comprehensive emergency healthcare.

Upon admission, the patient was in a critical state, facing respiratory failure, internal bleeding, and numerous fractures across the body. A comprehensive evaluation was undertaken, incorporating expertise from the orthopaedic, general, brain, neurology, and thoracic surgery departments.

The treatment strategy was led by Dr. Ken Kalevi Kontio, Consultant Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgeon, and Dr. Mohamed Khattab, Assistant Professor & Consultant in Orthopaedics, Trauma and Arthroplasty Surgeries at SKMC, who guided a highly specialised team in its multidisciplinary approach. The patient received a series of advanced surgical interventions, leveraging the latest in medical technology. The team’s initial focus on stabilising the patient in the intensive care unit was quickly followed by numerous surgical procedures to address the significant internal injuries and fractures.
